By Margaret Shepard, Communications Associate

Bone density and celiac disease are back in the news again thanks to a recent study published in The Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Raul Ruiz Esponda, M. D., recently discussed the connection between bone density and celiac disease. Watch him talk about how important bone health is for people with celiac disease.

Dr. Espnoda’s video was really helpful. It is great to have information on how to manage celiac disease after diagonosis. I was diagnosed with celiac disease 6 years ago and take medication for bone loss – hip and spine. I was apprehensive to start medication, but see that we did appropriate tests and monitoring of results. To be 56 yrs and starting second year on medication causes concern how long to take medication and what new might be available as age. I am grateful for the information Mayo shares about celiac disease. Happy Thanksgiving.
